Rif Bertone – Mont de la Saxe – Val Sapin

Another beautiful Feburary day as we hiked out of Val Sapin up to the deserted Refguge di Bertone. Just time for a quick picnic before we made our way on to the broad summit of Mont de la Saxe, taking advantage of the favourable  to gain a rare glimpse of the rolling summits at this time of year. The descent was made even more breath taking being made in the company of the setting sun :-)!! Great company & a great day out…..

Court de Bard 2261m

Just amazing conditions for the day out to Court de Bard. A great little peak which affords stunning 360° views of upper Val d’Aosta, with La Grivola, Mt Emilius, & Mt Blanc dominating the panorama.

Rif Walter Bonatti

What a wonderful day out in the Val Ferret. Superb weather for the hike up to the Bonatti Refuge. Wild Alps is planning an overnight trip to this friendly, modern Rifugio sometime next month. It gives excellent access to some high mountain snow shoeing with amazing panorama’s of Mont Blanc

The snow never stopped falling & with temperatures hovering around 0°C even at 2000m it was a hard slog breaking trail in often thigh deep snow. Around 4 hours passed to gain our 770m of ascent but our toils were rewarded with some breathtaking glimpses of the white cloaked wilds of Val Vertosan. After savoring our solitude, being the only people who ventured above Col de Bard all day we descended in good spirits, happy to have made the most of the day, & looking forward to enjoying the track we had put in the next time the weather lifts […]
